The Just Ask restaurant of the month for May goes to The Purple Onion, Tarmonbarry, Co. Roscommon.
“Seasonality is key to our frequently changing menus. We hold respect for the producers that supply quality ingredients and provide the inspiration for our cooking. Our beef and lamb are supplied by John Stone of Longford and our Piedmontese beef comes from Irish Piedmontese Beef Ltd. in Co. Tipperary. Chicken is sourced from Salters of Carlow and duck from Thornhill in Co. Cavan. Atlantis Seafoods in Kilmore Quay supply our fresh fish, while smoked fish and other smoked meats come from Frank Hederman in Cobh and Anthony Creswell of Ummera Smokehouse. Our pork and black pudding come from Jack McCarthy in Kanturk in Co. Cork. Shanleys of Longford are our main vegetable supplier and we also grow our own salad leaves, herbs and root vegetables in our garden and polytunnel here in Tarmonbarry”.
