Sheep Trade & Prices
Quotes: The lamb trade has come under pressure this week this week. Base quotes from major lamb processors came back 30c-40c this week, with most quotes for lambs in the region of €9.30/kg (plus QA bonus). Producers with larger numbers of lambs that meet current market specifications have been able to negotiate slightly higher prices. Most factories have set carcase weight limits to 21.5kg.
Prices: The average reported deadweight price last week (w/e 20th June) has increase significantly to €9.38/kg. Trade is €1.17 ahead of the corresponding period last year when the reported deadweight price was €8.23/kg. Meanwhile in GB reported deadweight lamb prices have come back significantly this week with prices up down €0.40/kg to €10.47/kg. The trade in Northern Ireland has fallen by the equivalent of €0.49/kg to €9.23/kg. Looking at the Southern Hemisphere, trade has softened in Australia with reported prices for heavy lambs decreasing by the equivalent of €0.12/kg to €6.78/kg last week. In New Zealand, prices have grown by €0.08/kg to €5.65/kg last week.
Throughput: Total sheep throughput in DAFM approved plants for week ending 20th June was 36,463, 7% behind the corresponding week in 2025. Current YTD throughput has fallen 4.9% behind 2025 levels to 959,189 head, with decreases in numbers of lambs contributing to this trend.
