 Provision of Technical Support  

Provision of Technical Support to SMEs active in the primary production of agricultural products (primary producers)

Who is eligible for the support?

Bord Bia provides technical support as detailed below in accordance with Article 15 of Commission Regulation 1857/2006 to SMEs who are primary producers in the livestock and horticultural sectors.

An SME (micro, small and medium) company (defined in Annex 1 of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 800/2008. (OJ L214 of 9.8.2008) is an enterprise which employs fewer than 250 persons and which has an annual turnover not exceeding EUR 50 million, and/or an annual balance sheet total not exceeding EUR 43 million.

 Level Of Technical Support

The aid is by way of subsidised services up to a maximum of 100% in accordance with Art.15.2 of Regulation (EC) No. 1857/2006. (OJ L358 of 16.12. 2006) and will not involve any direct payments of money  to primary producers .

LIVESTOCK

Aid provided by means of subsidised services up to  100% under Article 15.2 (f) of Commission Regulation 1857/2006

Publications

  • Market information –reports from Bord Bia’s European offices are disseminated to farmers and farm organisations.
  • Weekly livestock reports –reports on prices and market conditions relating to calf and livestock trade are relayed to main livestock exporters and to farmers and farm organisation representatives.
  • Bi-monthly market-updates from other EU Member States on the livestock trade and issues of relevance to intra-community trade.  Reports go to all livestock exporters, farmers and farm organisations.

Aid by way of subsidised services concerning the organisation of and participation in fora to share knowledge between businesses, competitions, exhibitions and fairs in accordance with article 15.2(d) of Commission Regulation 1857/2006.

  • Annual livestock open seminars
    Bord Bia Seminars re  issues affecting live export trade – such as  updates on diseases, and animal transport regulations. Livestock exporters are invited to attend.  Bord Bia subsidises costs to participants by paying for rental of premises and costs of associated publications in accordance with article 15.2(d) (iii) and (iv). of Regulation 1857/2006
    Travel costs of participants are also payable at up to 100% in accordance with Article 15. 2 (d) (ii). of Regulation 1857/2006.
  • Open days
    Bord Bia organises open days in other Member States to disseminate Information on rearing conditions, traceability and quality of cattle. Bord Bia subsidises costs to participants by paying for rental of premises and costs of associated publications in accordance with article 15.2(d) (iii) and (iv). of Regulation 1857/2006.
    Travel costs of participants are also payable at up to 100% in accordance with Article 15. 2 (d) (ii) of Regulation 1857/2006.


Horticulture Sector (edible and amenity)

Aid is provided by way of subsidised services for Business Development / Training at up to 100% under Article 15. 2 (a) of Commission Regulation 1857/2006

  • Training
    Bord Bia organises business development support and training courses and workshops for operators in the horticulture Industry to enable upskilling, sound business management and to promote best practice and production skills.
    Travel and subsistence costs of participants are also payable at up to 100% in accordance with Article 15. 2 (a) (ii) of Regulation 1857/2006.
  • Amenity Programme
    Bord Bia organises Amenity Programmes to encourage and assist amenity horticulture enterprises to develop their business.  The Programme is open to SME companies in nursery stock production, flower bulbs, cut foliage and Christmas tree production .  Activities sponsored include  research of market opportunities, foreign study tours, inward buyer events, training in marketing and related business disciplines and access to expert consultancy
    Travel and subsistence costs of participants are also payable at up to 100% in accordance with Article 15. 2 (a) (ii) of Regulation 1857/2006.

Aid for participation in fora to share knowledge between businesses, competitions, exhibitions and fairs in accordance with article 15.2(d)  of Commission Regulation 1857/2006.

  • Bord Bia Organised Events
    Bord Bia organises and supports a number of events, conferences and seminars including the Kildare Growers Trade Show for the horticultural sector for which it subsidises costs to participants by paying for rental of premises and costs of associated publications in accordance with article 15.2(d) (iii) and (iv) of Regulation 1857/2006. Travel costs of participants are payable at up to 100% in accordance with Article 15. 2 (d) (ii) . Travel costs of participants in Bord Bia sponsored events are also payable at up to 100% in accordance with Article 15. 2 (d) (ii) of Regulation 1857/2006. 

Aid provided by means of subsidised services at 100% under Article 15.2 (f) of Commission Regulation 1857/2006.

  • Production and Market Information
    This programme provides market information on consumer and market trends, and changes in production in the horticultural industry and includes the collation of production information and market research into the fresh produce and amenity markets.
    The information is available free of charge to the horticultural industry.
