About the company
Established in 1995 and based in Wexford, Atlantis Seafood sources, processes and supplies fresh, smoked and prepared seafood products. The company operates a seafood processing facility, fish retail outlet and smokehouse, and supplies retail, hospitality and foodservice customers in Ireland and export markets.
Key Sustainability Commitments
Energy consumption across the facility has been a key focus area for Atlantis Seafood who aim to improve both electricity and diesel efficiency. In 2022, the member reduced their electricity consumption per tonne output by 7.2% compared to the previous year while diesel usage per tonne output was reduced by 6.9% at the same time.
A key driver for the reduced energy consumption was the training of staff across the site. A new detailed daily checklist was developed, noting all items to be turned off completely at the end of the workday. Van drivers received training on digital systems outlining energy efficient delivery routes. Additionally, diesel vans are replaced as required to eliminate excessive fuel use by old vehicles.
As a result, Atlantis Seafood improved their overall energy efficiency, reduced their reliance on the national grid and fossil fuels, and decreased their carbon emissions.
