These logos are used when the product ingredients make up less than 90% of the finished product. This means that only the meat content of the product has been certified by Bord Bia certified members using Bord Bia Standards.
The Certified Member Logo is used by producers, growers, packers and processors. It tells you that the farm or company are certified members of the Bord Bia quality assurance schemes.
Sustainable Quality Assurance Schemes
Quality Assurance plays a fundamental role in promoting food and horticulture and provides the platform for consumer promotion of product quality. Bord Bia operates a series of quality assurance schemes for the food industry. The schemes are built on best practice in farming and processing, current legislation, relevant industry guidelines and international standards - and are accredited to the ISO17065/2012.
The primary work of the quality assurance division is to develop new standards, improve existing standards and ensure the timely and efficient auditing and certification of members to each of the schemes. Safeguarding the integrity of the schemes requires continual review and systems improvement particularly given the increased utilisation and recognition of the Bord Bia Quality Assurance logo.
The Standards are developed through a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). This committee is made up of representatives from the industry, Bord Bia, Farm Organisations, Teagasc, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and other technical experts. Food safety, traceability, welfare, and environmental protection are the cornerstone of the standards.

Sustainability & Origin Green at Farm Level
Sustainability criteria have been incorporated into recently developed standards and any future review of existing standards will result in the inclusion of sustainability criteria.
Origin Green is the Bord Bia sustainability programme. It is the only one in the world which operates at a national level and which includes farmers and primary producers, processors and retailers working together and leading the way to create a better future for all involved.
Farmers who are certified members of the Bord Bia Quality Assurance programme & who participate in farm sustainability assessments as part of their audit, are the essential first link in Origin Green. In essence the Bord Bia Quality Assurance schemes are Origin Green operating at farm level.
Origin Green’s system of measuring and feedback helps to identify steps to increased efficiency. An increasing number of Irish farmers are recognising that improved sustainability practices are good for business too. Sustainable farming and efficient farming go hand in hand and can also preserve your farm business and the environment for future generations.
Bord Bia recently launched the Sustainable Beef and Lamb Assurance Scheme which responds to market demand for Ireland to continue to prove its sustainability credentials; the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme was introduced in 2013 and is operating successfully.
The sustainability information for dairy, beef and lamb is currently being captured with plans to extend this programme across pigmeat, poultry, eggs, horticulture and grain.
Sustainable Beef and Lamb Assurance Scheme
The Sustainable Beef and Lamb Scheme (SBLAS) has replaced the existing Beef and Lamb Quality Assurance Scheme (BLQAS). The new scheme includes a close-out period and a Bord Bia Helpdesk (01 5240410) to assist farmer to prepare for their audit and help facilitate closeout of non compliances raised during an audit.
