Bord Bia today launched a consumer campaign to kick start the gardening season in Ireland and to encourage everyone to get a little green fingered this spring. The “It’s Garden Time” campaign encourages the general public to get back out into their gardens and highlights the benefits associated with the pastime of gardening. Even moderate garden activity, which can involve walking, bending, stretching and reaching, has been shown to burn a minimum of 200 calories per hour.*
After one of the coldest winters on record it’s heartening to finally see the first signs of spring in our gardens. If the task is a little daunting and you are in need of some help or guidance, Ireland has an established professional community of quality assured nurseries, landscapers and garden centres. At its recent National Amenity Horticulture Awards, Bord Bia presented Quality Awards to 54 horticultural companies who successfully achieved the standards as set out by its Quality Assurance Programme. Valued at almost €5,000, the ‘Hangout’ serves many purposes from an outdoor living space and BBQ area to a clothes drying facility.
