Imports Labelling
What you need to know
There are changes required on labels, some of which have come into effect already and some which will not come into effect right away. It is important that you are aware of these labelling changes.
The food business operator responsible for food information is:
•The operator under whose name or business name the food is marketed or
•if that operator is not established in the EU, the importer into the EU market.
Ensure that there is an EU address for the FBO on pre-packaged or caseins.
A UK address can no longer appear on food labels as the operator whose name or business name the food is marketed is no longer in the EU. Therefore, the address of the importer must be used.
Ensure that your supplier uses the appropriate code or code or the full country name on the POAO intended for import into Ireland from Great Britain.
Codes include GB, UK or UK(NI)

All UK GIs registered under the EU GI schemes can continue to receive protection in the EU. New UK products seeking EU GI protection need to secure protection under UK schemes first.
Your supplier has the option to use the EU organic logo on any GB organic food. If your supplier includes the EU organic logo for GB exports to the EU, they must include the EU statement of agricultural origin, which must be one of the following options (or be more specific):
• UK Agriculture – agricultural ingredients produced in UK
• Non-UK Agriculture – agricultural ingredients produced outside UK
• UK or Non UK Agriculture - if the food produced using a mixture of UK and Non UK Agriculture.
Agricultural Origin can be more specific (i.e. “Welsh Agriculture”
Food produced in Great Britain and imported into the EU cannot be labelled as EU origin. Country of Origin / Place of Provenance rules can be complex and can differ based on product type.
