DEFRA Notification on pre-notification timelines
The announcement on Friday from DEFRA will be well received by the industry as clarity on the time requirements has been sought for some time.
- From 1st Oct to 31st Dec 2021, a pre-notification period of no less than 4 hours will apply. This is a temporary arrangement for three months and a significant reduction in the planned requirement for traders to pre-notify at least one working day prior to the arrival of consignments into GB.
- From 1st Jan onward, the 24 hour pre-notification period will apply. A derogation to reduce this to 4 hours can be applied for (to the competent authority at the Border Control Post) in the event of logistical constraints etc.
