Origin Green Sustainability Seminar 2024

This annual sustainability event, is an important one for all Origin Green member companies to attend along with other Bord Bia client companies interested in finding out more about sustainability.

The event will bring together global thought leaders and industry leaders to discuss some of the key themes that will impact the Irish food, drink and horticulture industry’s sustainability agenda. It is a fantastic networking opportunity to meet industry peers and sustainability leaders.

Agenda:

The format will be a mix of short keynote presentations followed by panel discussions offering the latest insights into sustainable innovation and geopolitical impacts.

MC for the Event: Richard Curran

 Richard is a journalist, broadcaster and author. He is the presenter of The Business radio show on RTE Radio One and a columnist with the Sunday Independent. Presenter of Dragons Den on RTE Television for eight series, Richard has 30 years experience in business journalism. He is a former business editor of the Irish Independent and former deputy editor of The Sunday Business Post. He has co-written two books, one on Irish entrepreneurs and the other on the multi-billion euro collapse of Irish Nationwide Building Society. He has also made several television documentaries for RTE including, Future Shock: Property Crash in 2007 and The Battle For Rural Ireland in 2015.

Keynote Speakers Include:

Hakan Nordkvist CEO of the Net Zero Company, Former Head of Sustainability Innovation for IKEA, Member of the Board of Advisors of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership & Strategic Advisor to the Board of XFrame

Håkan Nordkvist is the Former Head of Sustainability Innovation for the IKEA Group. An exceptionally talented leader with a human-centric vision, he is known for his innovative solutions and has played an integral role in developing many of IKEA’s sustainability services, now working as the CEO of the Net Zero Company. Talented and courageous, Håkan is gifted at setting bold futuristic goals and ambitions and then successfully implementing those goals through innovative initiatives, road maps and creative businesses and solutions for a better future.

 

Peter Cosgrove:

Founder of Futurewise, a future of work insights company which researches and publishes articles on the workplace of the future. He is also an author and media commentator.

 

Gavin Barwell  Senior Advisor to PwC on UK politics and geopolitics :

(Lord) Gavin Barwell acts as a Senior Advisor to PwC on UK politics and geopolitics. As Downing Street Chief of Staff during the last two years of Theresa May's premiership, Gavin was at the heart of government during one of the most turbulent periods in British political history. He has held a number of other roles during his political career including Chief Operating Officer of the Conservative Party, MP for Central Croydon, senior government whip, Minister of Housing and Minister for London. Gavin provides pertinent analysis of UK politics and geopolitics from key trends, to the war in Ukraine and tensions with China. He shares distinctive and highly relevant insights into political risks and opportunities that boards and C-suite executives should be considering, including sector specific challenges and opportunities.

 

Event Panelists Include:

David McGee:

David is an advisory partner in PwC Ireland’s consulting team and leads the firm’s ESG practice. With over twenty years of experience in the retail sector, David brings a unique blend of industry knowledge and consulting expertise to his role. His career spans industry positions and consultancy work, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the retail and consumer goods sectors. Before joining PwC in 2008, David held a senior position in a major Irish retail and wholesale company. His leadership of PwC’s ESG practice reflects the firm’s commitment to helping businesses integrate sustainability into their core operations and strategies.

 

Aoife Murphy:

Aoife is Chief Ingredients Officer at Tirlán with responsibility for strategy and commercial execution across the Ingredients category. Aoife previously held the role of Director of Ingredients with Tirlán. Prior to joining Glanbia Ireland (now Tirlán), in 2009, Aoife worked with Kerry Group in a number of business units across Food & Ingredients in Ireland, the UK and The Netherlands within Commercial & Technical functions. Aoife is a member of the Bord Bia - Dairy subsidiary Board.

 

Nicoline van Gerrevink:

Head of the Food System Transition team (a.i.) and lead on Regenerative Agriculture at Rabobank. Nicoline started at Rabobank in 2012 and has a strong background in structuring financial solutions that are “out of the box”. Currently focussing greatly on advocating Regenerative Agriculture both internally as well as externally by building partnerships with Wholesale clients that have commitments on Regenerative Agriculture. All this with the aim to find new financial solutions to finance the transition. Working with the idea “create a business model for the farmer, and he/she will follow” the strategy is to stack incentives together with supply chain actors to accelerate the transition. Next to that, the Food System Transition team is seeking to enable Rabobank to green its portfolio by building strategies for the bank on upcoming markets that enable more sustainable and healthy food production.

 

Gillian Harford:

Senior HR Executive who works directly with client organisations focusing on diversity and workplace change.  Sponsored by Matheson LLP she also operates as the Country Executive for the 30% Club, a global campaign supported by Chairs and CEOs driving gender balance on Boards and at cSuite.  Gillian is the former Head of HR Strategy & Planning with AIB where, with a career spanning almost 40 years, she has been responsible for significant people change with particular focus on Culture, Career, Diversity and Agile Work.  Gillian holds a BA, an MBA from Michael Smurfit Business School UCD, and the Professional Diploma in Corporate Governance, UCD.   She is a member of the Institute of Directors, fellow of CIPD, and a fellow of the Institute of Bankers.  Gillian is a member of the Board for the Central Remedial Clinic and an Advisory Group member for the government-based initiatives Balance for Better Business and the Women in Finance Charter. 

 

Tara McCarthy:

Global Vice President of ESG, Alltech Ireland

Tara McCarthy is the global vice president of ESG at Alltech, where she supports the company's purpose of Working Together for a Planet of Plenty™. Previously, she served as the chief executive officer of Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board, and as the chief executive officer of Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), Ireland’s seafood development agency. In 2019, she co-founded Agdif, an organization that champions diversity in the Irish food industry.

McCarthy holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and a master’s degree in business studies from University College Dublin's Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. She is also an affiliate of IMD Business School in Switzerland.

 

Rosaleen Hyde:

Rosaleen Hyde is the operations manager at Ballymaloe Foods. Ballymaloe Foods is a family run business, manufacturing of a range of condiments and sauces in Co, Cork. In addition to overseeing the day to day operations of the company, Rosaleen drives the company strategy and development with her sister Maxine. Sustainability has always been a passion and focus of their business and they are proud members of Origin Green for the last ten years.

 

Desi Derby:

Desi Derby is the Marketing Director for Musgrave’s portfolio of food & beverage wholesale brands, across the island of Ireland. With additional responsibilities in the Republic of Ireland for eCommerce & Customer Services and, in the North, for retail brands SuperValu, Centra and Mace. Having spent 15 years with a number of Ireland’s leading advertising agencies, later heading up brand strategy for Lidl, Desi is passionate about customer-centric marketing, supporting local food and leveraging corporate partnerships to build stronger communities. Desi is also an alumni of Bord Bia’s Sustainability Acceleration Programme.

 

Richa Tyagi:

  Sustainability Advisor at Business in the Community Ireland, where she works with major businesses on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) through Elevate: The Inclusive Workplace Pledge. The Elevate Pledge encourages employers to take tangible actions to build inclusive workplaces. Richa in her role supports the signatories of the Elevate Pledge to take strategic and targeted initiatives to create more sustainable and thriving workplaces.

 

Ben Carty:

Business Development lead at Oliver Carty & Family, which holds Origin Green Gold Membership. In a wide-ranging role, Ben works across functions from sales and account management to brand and product management. Prior to his role in the family business in Athlone, Ben worked in the SaaS technology space. Ben is also co-chairperson of the Agri-Food Diversity & Inclusion Forum (AgDIF) Taskforce.
