Preparing for restrictions on HFSS (High Fat, Salt or Sugar) products in the UK

As part of the UK Government’s response to tackling the obesity issues facing their population, in particular childhood obesity, a number of regulations are being introduced to food and drink products that are high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS). HFSS refers to food and drink products that are high in (saturated) fat, salt or sugar according to the Department of Health's Nutrient Profiling Model (NPM).

Bord Bia in collaboration with Leatherhead and IGD are hosting a webinar to translate the HFSS regulation: what does this mean for suppliers? How might shoppers respond?

Our expert presenters on the morning will be:

  • Mark Moss - Senior Regulatory Consultant - Scientific and Regulatory Affairs at Leatherhead
  • Luke Murphy - VP Key Accounts, Scientific and Regulatory at Leatherhead
  • Rhian Thomas, Head of Shopper Insight at IGD

Leatherhead will look at the scope and impact of the UK Government’s new rules on the promotion and placement of foods that are high in fat, sugar & salt. It will look at the products in scope of these new restrictions and which promotional activities are being curbed. (30 minutes)

IGD will provide deep insights and opinions from the UK Grocery market and British shopper insights. They will share key findings from IGD’s 2021 research on British shoppers’ attitudes towards health, engagement with secondary locations and promotional mechanics. (25 minutes)

There will be 15 minute Q&A session at the end of the presentations.
