EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices
Food Drink Ireland (FDI) and Origin Green are hosting a joint event, on 8th July at 10am, on the EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices, one of the initiatives under the Commission’s Farm to Fork Strategy.
There are similarities between the EU Code of Conduct and Bord Bia's Origin Green Programme. Origin Green have developed a template which helps companies sign up to the EU Code of Conduct using their Origin Green Commitments. Origin Green will speak about the template and how to sign up to the EU Code of Conduct at the event.
The event will include a presentation from Dawn Meats Group giving an overview on why they signed the Code, the benefits of signing the Code, and using their current commitments under Origin Green to comply with the EU code of Conducts requirements.
The EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices is one of the first deliverables of the Farm to Fork Strategy and an integral part of its action plan. It sets out the actions that the actors ‘between the farm and the fork’, such as food processors, food service operators, and retailers, can voluntarily commit to undertake to tangibly improve and communicate their sustainability performance. These actions can be directly relevant and implementable within their own operations or may encourage collaboration with industry peers and other food system stakeholders (such as farmers and consumers) to make similar changes.
The Code of Conduct will enter into force on 5 July 2021.
