This week I came across reference to two research studies looking to predict consumer behaviour post pandemic.

The first piece of research was undertaken by Slerp – an on-demand ordering platform.  They predict that fine dining at home is ‘here to stay’, with one third of the UK population claiming they will continue to place orders after lockdown.

The company has seen 600% growth in the past six months, with sales during Valentine’s weekend increasing 390% and restaurants now gearing up for Mother’s Day orders.

The second was a study undertaken by Deliveroo Singapore who, in addition to providing a delivery network for restaurants, also launched an on-demand grocery delivery service in October 2020, partnering with the likes of M&S and a selection of speciality grocery stores.

According to a survey undertaken by Deliveroo Singapore in January 2021, 81% of respondents stated that they are more reliant on food delivery services to order their meals and 82% of consumers agreeing they would use food delivery services more regularly in the next few years.

Sarah Tan, GM for Deliveroo Singapore predicts, “The habits developed by consumers throughout Covid 19 are not ones that will likely fade away; delivery is indeed the new normal, and many opportunities lay ahead for platforms, restaurants, consumers and riders alike”.

On Wednesday, 10th March, in conjunction with Technomic market researchers, Bord Bia is hosting a 45 minute webinar entitled ‘Rebuilding Foodservice – Lessons from Elsewhere’.

Join us to listen to lessons from global foodservice markets. Where is the industry headed in the next 6-12 months? What concepts are planning for future growth? What can we expect in terms of new consumer demands? Explore how the industry is changing and how both operators and suppliers can use this current period of lockdown to prepare to build back business when the rebound finally does come.
