Winning Formula?

On 28th March, Starbucks’ UK announced figures for their financial year ending October 2021, confirming that total revenues in 2021 rose by 35%, despite a year of continued disruption – how did they do it?

Starbucks has a total of 1,000 stores in the UK, 297 of which are company owned and 703 run by licensees.

They attributed the rebound to a number of factors, most notably:

  • Increase in cold beverages and a higher rate of food sales
  • Strong footfall in suburban locations and retail parks
  • Drive-thru, take-away and delivery performing well (with the average spend per consumer in these channels higher than in a traditional store)

Ultimately, an example of an agile operator understanding how customer behaviours have changed as a result of the pandemic. A number of these trends and drivers are reflected in the eight Critical Factors called out in our 2021 Irish Foodservice & Consumer Insights report. Click here to download a full copy of the report.
