Hotels facing €270m revenue loss over Christmas

Hotels and guesthouses across the country are facing up to €270m in lost revenues over the Christmas period due to Covid-19 restrictions. Commenting on reports that people will not be allowed to travel outside their county for much of December, the Irish Hotels Federation said that will have a devastating impact on hotels throughout the country and will severely limit their ability to trade. "Only a very small proportion of hotel accommodation in December is from within the same county," the Irish Hotels Federation's Chief Executive Tim Fenn said.

Government makes plea against restaurant 'no shows'

The Government is urging people not to be a restaurant ‘no show’ by not turning up for bookings without cancelling if they can’t make it. Speaking at a briefing, Assistant Secretary General at the Department of the Taoiseach Liz Canavan said it was “big weekend” for restaurants that reopened. “Restaurants and pubs operating as restaurants have reported a positive first weekend of reopening,” she said. “People are reminded to play their part and follow the guidelines. It has been a difficult year for restaurants, so let’s not add to the pressure and lost income by becoming a no show.”
