Pretax profits down at group behind Talbot hotels and Pettitt supermarkets

Pretax profits at the business behind the four-star Talbot hotel group and the long established Wexford-based Pettitt’s supermarkets last year dipped marginally to €6.24 million. The Wexford-based group operates under the Talbot Collection and Pettitt’s Supervalu brands across 16 properties. The group also operates the Stillorgan Park Hotel in Dublin. The figures show that the largest proportion of the group’s revenues, almost 75 per cent, come from the retail trade. The Directors said the supermarket division has traded well in a very competitive environment. “However going into 2019, the hotel division faces big challenges in the form of high insurance costs, a VAT increase and Brexit, ”the Directors said.
Press Up opens Mackenzie’s Restaurant, Dublin

The Press Up Group has opened its latest restaurant, Mackenzie’s, in Dublin’s Docklands. Mackenzie’s is a casual dining operation with a diverse American-inspired menu. Located on the Grand Canal Basin, an open kitchen takes up the back wall of the restaurant, featuring a copper wood fired pizza oven. As well as cocktails, the drinks menu includes wines from Japan, China and Brazil, along with a selection of vegan options available on tap.
New Development with bar and restaurant reportedly planned for Kiely's of Donnybrook site

A new bar and restaurant is due be included in a residential-led scheme being planned for the site of the newly-purchased Kiely's pub in the south Dublin suburb of Donnybrook. The €5 million-plus sale of the pub to developer Shane Whelan's Westridge Real Estate firm was completed on Friday November 22, and it is expected that Whelan will apply for permission to develop a high-end apartment building with a rooftop bar and restaurant on the site. The new development would be up to six storeys in height.
