Dominos plans recruitment drive in UK and Ireland

Irish Times - 14.10.2021

Pizza giant Domino’s has said it plans to hire more than 8,000 drivers across the UK and Ireland as part of preparations for the busy Christmas period. It comes as the takeaway firm updated shareholders on its trading over the past three months. The company said sales in the 13 weeks to September 26th were up 8.8 per cent on a like-for-like basis to £375.8 million. Orders collected from stores — a key area of growth for the business — were up 40.3 per cent and stand at 82 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.

Alcohol consumption in Ireland decreased by 10.8% in first half of 2021

Hospitality Ireland – 09.09.2021

Drinks manufacturers and suppliers representative group Drinks Ireland said in a statement, "New Revenue Clearance figures show that alcohol consumption fell by 10.8% in the first half of 2021 (January-June), compared with the same period last year. "This fall is a result of the closure of the hospitality industry, but is also in line with the long-term trend of consumption declining in Ireland, according to Drinks Ireland, which represents drinks manufacturers and suppliers. The new figures confirm that alcohol consumption declined dramatically as a result of COVID-19. The figures from the first half of 2021 are down by 14.1% compared with the same period in 2019, before the pandemic hit."
