Bord Bia, in conjunction with the OPW, will host Ireland’s first ever national independent drinks festival at Farmleigh House and gardens in the Phoenix Park, Dublin this weekend. The festival will feature a substantial drinks marquee with the very best of Ireland’s independent micro-breweries, cider makers, distillers and liqueur companies. Participating companies include Galway Hooker, Carlow Brewing Company and Cork based Franciscan Well.
SeptemberFest will also cater for families with plenty of attractions including a live music stage, street performers and a picnic area for patrons to enjoy. There will be a medieval display featuring crafts, falconry, interactive children’s entertainment and a lecture series in Farmleigh House including talks on traditional Irish cooking methods, the diets of the ancient Irish, the history of Farmleigh and tastings of the Irish beers, ciders and whiskeys within the onsite marquee.
Artisan food producers will be on site throughout the event to feed the masses with their range of hand crafted crepes, quiches, pies, hot dogs and burgers and the popular Farmleigh food market also takes place on Saturday and Sunday.
According to Aidan Cotter, Chief Executive, Bord Bia “Ireland’s ale, stout and bitter market was valued at €1.062 billion in 2007, with the speciality beer market worth a significant €6.5 million. SeptemberFest will allow patrons to taste and purchase an array of products from Ireland’s somewhat lesser known but innovative and unique drinks companies.”
The festival will be open each day from 11:00am to 6.30pm and admission is free. There is limited car-parking available onsite and the new frequent shuttle bus service running from Heuston station to the Phoenix Park includes a stop at Farmleigh.
