FoodCloud
FoodCloud works with Origin Green members to provide them with a solution for surplus food
FoodCloud is a non-profit social enterprise operating since 2013, addressing the twin issues of food waste and food insecurity. We partner with leading retailers, restaurants, food companies, non-profit organizations, governmental actors, and business communities across Ireland, the UK, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Our goal is to redistribute surplus food, driving progress toward a circular economy for our food systems.
As an Origin Green Partner, FoodCloud works with members to offer solutions for surplus food, helping them reduce their environmental impact while supporting local communities. We also help track progress toward sustainability goals.
FoodCloud Hubs have partnered with Origin Green members across the food supply chain to simplify the donation of surplus food. Notable retail partners like Aldi, Lidl, Musgrave Group, and Tesco ensure that surplus from stores is donated to local charities. Additionally, we work with food manufacturers like Kepak, Lakeland Dairies, Country Crest, and Carrol Cuisine.
Globally, businesses are discarding vast amounts of perfectly good food while charities struggle to feed those in need. Approximately 40% of food produced is wasted, equating to 2.5 billion tonnes of food—enough to feed the hungry four times over. In 2023, the UN stated that reducing global food waste by just 25% could alleviate hunger for millions.
