In 2024, Bewley’s Ltd met its biodiversity milestone by supporting one integrated open canopy project in Honduras, Central America. This initiative focused on restoring damaged forest habitats within coffee-growing regions, ensuring that at least 50% of the coffee farm area is conserved or restored as forest habitat.

By supporting forest restoration in a key coffee-producing region, the company is helping to protect biodiversity while strengthening the resilience of coffee farming communities that are vulnerable to climate change and deforestation.

A central feature of the initiative is its endorsement of the Mesoamerican Development Institute (MDI) model for sustainable coffee production. This model integrates forest conservation with low-emission coffee processing technologies, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while restoring native ecosystems. Bewley’s support of this model reflects its broader sustainability goals and its role in promoting regenerative practices within its supply chain.

The project also contributes to global biodiversity conservation efforts by protecting critical habitats for native flora and fauna. By restoring forest cover and promoting agroforestry systems, the initiative enhances ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, soil health, and water regulation, benefits that extend beyond the coffee farm itself.
