In 2024, Beara Distillery Ltd reported a reduction in electricity usage from 0.598 kWh/litre in 2023 to 0.496 kWh/litre of output. This performance exceeded their milestone target by 7.6%.
This achievement was supported by the completion of one key energy initiative and continued progress on two others. Among the most impactful actions was the completion of the All-Ireland Climate Action Pilot Programme for SMEs, which provided the company with structured guidance and tools to identify and implement energy-saving opportunities.
In parallel, Beara Distillery Ltd advanced two additional initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency. These included the ongoing installation of energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the facility, which has contributed to lower electricity demand and improved lighting quality in production areas. Support from the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) has played a valuable role in enabling these improvements, providing both technical and financial assistance.
Beara Distillery Ltd also reported being in the planning stages for two further initiatives, demonstrating a proactive approach to long-term energy management. These planned actions are expected to build on the momentum of current efforts and further reduce the distillery’s environmental footprint.
