In 2024, Dawn Pork & Bacon made significant strides in reducing its energy consumption intensity from 190.7 kWh/t in 2023 to 170.0 kWh/t, outperforming the target of 176.1 kWh/t. This reduction is attributed to several efficiency-driven upgrades, including the installation of a second compressor, a new air dryer, and a new condenser, all designed to enhance operational performance and reduce energy demand.
The company also achieved a substantial reduction in absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, which decreased from 1,935 tCO₂e in 2023 to 1,398 tCO₂e in 2024, exceeding its milestone target by 36.3%. These emissions reductions are directly linked to the same energy efficiency initiatives, which have improved the overall environmental footprint of the facility. In addition, Dawn Pork & Bacon secured planning permission for an on-site wind turbine, marking a forward-looking step toward renewable energy generation.
While Scope 3 emissions intensity saw a slight increase from 4.99 tCO₂e/t to 5.01 tCO₂e/t, the company remains below its milestone of 6.57 tCO₂e/t. Dawn Pork & Bacon is actively addressing this area through two key initiatives: pursuing the installation of a wind turbine and increasing usage of onsite renewable energy from solar panels. These efforts reflect a commitment to transparency and continuous improvement in emissions reporting.
