Setting up for Success Online

15th February 2020

Nicola Martin, Insight & Brand Building Specialist, Bord Bia – Irish Food Board

Since 2017, online shopping has grown by 75%. This is forecast to grow by a further 55% in the next three years. (Bord Bia, 2020). A recent report published by Bearing Point indicates that Irish companies are lagging behind European counterparts in a review of their digital maturity online (Bearing Point, 2021). Given the significant growth in online grocery, particularly in the last year alone, the online space can offer Food, Drink & Horticulture businesses significant opportunity. Bord Bia’s Think Digital programme aims to equip Clients with the skills and support needed to win online.

Bord Bia has launched a comprehensive new suite of digital services under its Think Digital programme to support Ireland’s food sector as it continues to face the severe and ongoing impacts of Covid-19 and the challenges of post-Brexit trading. The new services have been designed with a focus on unlocking the e-commerce potential within the sector to deliver much needed growth. The new services will be primarily provided through a series of virtual workshops, webinars and self-service digital marketing guidebooks. Client companies can also apply for bespoke, one-to-one digital mentoring, digital project management and branding supports.

Irish Seafood company Atlantis of Kilmore Quay, have embraced this opportunity and have undergone a significant digital transformation project. With the help of Bord Bia, the company recently developed and launched a new e-commerce website for their business. In this week’s Bord Bia Bulletin podcast, Scott Wardlaw, Sales Manager at Altantis of Kilmore Quay explains why the company made the move online and how they overcame some of the challenges faced in their journey.
