With regard to the auditing of Quality Assurance Schemes, we have made the decision to postpone audits for two months, and to extend the validity of current certificates where applicable for an initial period of 60 days. Such an extension scenario is already provided for within the standard. This decision prioritises the health and welfare of farmers and auditors, while ensuring that the reputation and integrity of the Quality Assurance Schemes are maintained.

The purpose of the farm walks is to provide dairy farmers with additional insights and learnings to assist them to farm efficiently and sustainably. The walks will cover: 

  • Efficient grassland management
  • Biodiversity and water quality measures
  • Addressing time management on-farm
  • Animal management
  • The new farm audit feedback report

Knowledge Transfer Walks

These walks support farmers in preparation for farm audits, as well as providing greater insights to Bord Bia’s Sustainable Beef and Lamb Assurance Scheme (SBLAS). The walks will cover:

  • Origin Green at farm and international marketing levels
  • Bord Bia’s SBLAS audit and the legal requirements of farmers to pass this inspection
  • Farm-safety requirements, such as the risk assessment document
  • Information on markets abroad – live cattle export numbers, markets that are delivering for Irish farmers, among others

Farmer Feedback Report

Bord Bia auditors gather data during the audit process through the Sustainability Survey as part of the Sustainable Assurance Schemes for beef, lamb and dairy. This information enables Bord Bia to assess the environmental performance of quality assured farms via a carbon footprint calculation.

The data gathered is now being used to generate a new farmer feedback report covering:

  • General Farm Performance
  • Carbon Footprint
  • Greenhouse Gases
  • Nutrient Management
  • Grassland Management
  • Farm Health and Safety
