Bord Bia Grass Fed Standards

Ireland’s mild climate creates ideal conditions for growing grass, and Irish farmers maximise this through their grassland management. The result is a grass based production system that delivers natural and great-tasting beef and dairy.

Increasingly consumers are expressing a desire for products that can be verified as grass fed. The Bord Bia Grass Fed Standards for Irish beef and dairy were developed in response to the demands of the marketplace - see the list of member companies in the Grass Fed Scheme.

Grass fed standard rules:
  • A minimum percentage of the animal’s diet must be grass or grass-based forage.
  • A minimum number of days must be spent grazing at pasture each year.

Grass Fed Standards

The Grass Fed Beef and Dairy Standards have been developed by Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board, in consultation with relevant stakeholders from the agri-food sector in Ireland. Read more about what's involved in the grass fed standard by downloading one of the PDF's below.
