Origin Green is a major Bord Bia initiative involving Ireland’s farmers, manufacturers and retailers in a journey towards sustainable food and drink production. Farm-level sustainability continues to be a primary focus of the programme with Beef and Dairy farm assessments now well established. Many farms have entered into their second and third audit cycle and over 90% of Irish food and drink exports come from verified Programme members.
We have produced a new series of five short video clips to help to explain how Irish farmers can be part of Origin Green and the benefits of farming sustainably – both to the environment and their farm.
One of the videos specifically explores sustainable dairy farming and the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme (SDAS). Another looks at Sustainable Beef Farming and the Sustainable Beef & Lamb Assurance Scheme (SBLAS), and a third looks at examples and standards from the Origin Green producer awards.
The new videos include a visit to the dairy farm of brothers Joe and Michael Hayden at Killaveney, Tinahely, Co. Wicklow; and to the beef farm of brothers Paddy and Tom Redmond at Craan, near Gorey, Co. Wexford.
Irish farmers who are certified members of the Quality Assurance programme and who participate in a farm sustainability survey as part of their audit are part of Origin Green. Each farmer share their experience of participating in the survey, using the results to set targets, and talk about the results they have achieved on their farms.
Origin Green is the only sustainability programme in the world to operate at a national scale showcasing Irish produce in global and home markets.
The videos complement and extend the range of visual resources and farmer stories available to help to demonstrate the benefits of taking part in the Quality Assurance programmes and being part of Origin Green.
